Hey guys I haven't been able to use my Diablo II for like a year and I finally got it to where it would work by changing it from running in Direct3D to DirectDraw (2D). Well every time I turn on my computer it is always changed back to Direct3D so before I start the game I always have to change it again. This is really getting annoying... Can anyone tell me what's up and how to make the da** thing stay on Direct Draw? Any help appreciated.

first of all, why do you want to use 2D instead of 3D? if you have a refurbished monitor like i do (Viewsonic E641-2), or just a weird monitor, then i might be able to help.

if you know nothing about resolution, refresh rates, and your monitor's supported modes, stop reading now.

i had a problem with games that want to show the main menu screen in 640x480. my monitor is rated to do 640x480@100Hz, but it can only really do 90Hz. i had to use a tweaker program to tell my Radeon that my monitor couldn't keep up, and never to go above 90Hz no matter what. it's kind of hit-or-miss. if your monitor goes black but you still get sound, go to Start-> Run...-> and type dxdiag. go to the display tab and run all DirectDraw & Direct3D tests. before i tweaked, i didn't get the full-screen bouncing box or the DX7 or DX8 spinning cube. if these are your results, reply accordingly. i'll coach you from there

Well I did all the tests and every single one was fine... I saw all the spinning cubes and bouncing white squares... Thanks for trying though... Any other suggestions, anyone?

jaschumann,
I am having exactly the problem that you described. Could you please help? My monitor is an older Compaq LCD, and my video card is a Radeon All-in-wonder. I'm trying to get a game to work for my kid, but when it starts it goes to a black screen, but I can hear. The test results with dxdiag are exactly as you described.
