I'm sorry I can't help, but this file is not part of Windows98. You can try to just reinstall the software this came from.

Hi Chrysa.

I'm afraid that you have the PrettyPark trojan.

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/prettypark.worm.html

This trojan alters the "EXE" information in your registry.

You can download the EXEfix08 and click on it to restore your correct EXE information.

http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Toys.html

Once your exe association is repaired use MSCONFIG to remove the files32.vxd from your startup.

Click Start - Run
Type: MSCONFIG

If you have windows 95, you can download, install and run StartUp Cop to remove it.

Here's some more. Look on the bright side, now you don't have to find that file!
PS I thought that file sounded fake, what kind of reputable computer geek would call a vxd 'files32'?

2151 » Windows cannot find FILES32.VXD. This program is needed for opening files of type
'Application'?

If you receive the subject message when you launch a program that has and .exe extension, you have been infected by the
Pretty Park virus.

To disinfect your installation:

1. Rename Regedt32.exe to Regedt32.com

2. Run Regedt32.com to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Exefile\Shell\Open\Command

3. Double-click the string in the right hand pane and change:

"files32.vxd" "%1" %*

to

"%1"%*

4. Check the alias at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Exefile\Shell\Open\Command and change it, also.

5. Search your hard drives for files32.vxd and delete all occurrences.

6. Rename Regedt32.com to Regedt32.exe.

7. Shutdown and restart your computer.
