Never noticed before, but my icons no longer seem to get sorted into correct alphabetic order when I use Arrange Icons By>Name. As you see from the screenshot, the two *folders* appear to screw things up somewhow. The first column starts off in order OK (apart from the 3 'specials' like My Computer), and continues in the second column. But then come those folders (which are *not* in any obvious sequence to me), and then the alphabetic order starts *again*.
Anyone know what's up here please?
BTW, do I have to enter my system spec EVERY time I post here? Can't it be setup in a profile? Also, can I not use [b] and [/b] to make something *bold*?

Just add it to your Forum Setting profile then select Set/Change.

Have you got your forum settings (in My Computing.Net) to "Show Images"? The graphic is there under the post.Terry
This is W95/98 forum so maybe you would do better on WinXP forum. For W98 I would ask how this lot appears when going to c:\windows\desktop (in Windows Explorer). Not sure if this is the right location in XP.On my W98SE if I set desktop to Arrange Icons by name it does this:
My Computer and Recycle bin are first (system items).
Folders are next (alphabetically).
Shortcuts to files follow (in order, including floppy) BUT "shortcuts" to Folders are treated like files and appear in amongst them.
I assume you've tried hitting Arrange Items then Name once more (just in case it just needs "kicking" into order).

I gave up fighting desktop icons years ago. I downloaded Iconoid and I arrange them how I want them. Then anytime something moves for any reason whatsoever, I click Iconoid and Presto! Right back to my original setup.
It is sillyware - the explanation is on the website. :)http://www.sillysot.com/sillyware.htm
If you like try iconoid and like it, maybe it was just good luck you posted here instead of the XP forum.

Terry, You could also go to the link below and download "Icon Restore" which is Free. After installing Icon Restore, simply place your icons wherever you want them on your desktop, right click your Recycle Bin icon and left click on "Save Desktop Icon Layout" from the pop up menu.
If your icons ever get moved because your computer entered safe mode or you changed the screen resolution, right click your Recycle Bin icon and left click on "Restore Desktop Icon Layout" from the pop up menu.

Thanks for all the helpful replies - especially as I somehow managed to post in the wrong forum!
I've since found the answer to the desktop icon issue: it's the distinction between All Users and MyName. To fix it, I went to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
and moved the few entries that had somehow ended up in there into
C:\Documents and Settings\Terry Pinnell\DesktopRe bold font, not sure I've grasped that yet. I use a Firefox extension called BBCode, which has two options, BBCode and XHTMLCode. I've always chosen the first, and never have a problem with other forums.
OK, to test, I'll make [b]this [/b]bold, first with BBCode, and <strong>now</strong> with XHTMLCode.
I see neither worked. So now I'll manually add plain HTML.
Voila - thanks! Looks like my FF extension doesn't offer the obvious.
As we're well OT, please excuse one final question please. Is the message window meant to be so narrow as it is here? (BTW, I can't seem to add an image or URL now that I'm at a 'preview' stage?)

Glad to hear you fixed it (your own way too LOL).XPUser
You must have some problem on your machine then.
I can see the graphic (big and blue just under the original post) and nobody else seems to have said it is not visible. There is an arguable ambiguity about the My Computing.Net setting. When the words say "Images On" then the images are visible (ie the words don't mean you click them to get the what the words are saying, as you would with a shortcut). If you can understand that lot you are doing well - couldn't think of any better way of putting it.
