desktop doesnt fit screen

I installed win98 on a dell laptop latitude cpi d266xt. working fine but the desk top doesnt fit the whole monitor theres about 3 1/2 of black around it. it wont let me chng the resolutions and i am not able to click fit to desktop. i went to dell to download drivers for monitors but i cant get it working still and it says my monitor is just a standard. thanks mike

It could just be that you need to adjust the size of the image on the screen. Using your monitor controls on the front of the monitor, increase the size both horizontally and vertically so that the image fills the screen.
If you're having trouble with the actual display, then you'll need to download the proper drivers for your video card.

It's probably the correct video adapter driver that you need, not the monitor driver.

I have the same laptop. This LCD driver does not autoscale. In Properties, Settings, Set the resolution to 1024 x 768. This will solve the problem.
