I'm trying to get online with this computer and internet explorer will not cooperate. I get the message that internet explorer has preformed an illegal operation and has to close. I'm getting an error message on boot up. Config.sys error line 32.

Are you using dialup or something else? Have you used the Internet connection wizard? What version of Internet Explorer are you using?

Do you also have more than one computer connected to the router? If so, can you see the other computer/s? You might try a repair of IE6.

You must have a heluva config.sys if it contains at least 32 lines. Post back its contents.

The config.sys error is probably not related to the IE problem.

I own this computer as well, recently mine began freezing up on me all the time which would easily frustrate me as I would have to reboot my computer too many times to enjoy my internet surfing my browser was netscape. I am not a big fan of internet explorer, as of March of this year there is no more online support for the netscape browser. I purchased my computer in 2005 for $99.00 , I feel I've gotten my money worth out of this computer. Instead of getting rid of this ancient machine I recently bought memory which isn't cheap for an older model like this one the least expensive I could find cost me $54.99 each for 2 sticks (256mb)to help improve my connection. So I am now at 640mb upgrading from 128mb. I have also upgraded to xp professional I too was running windows 98, so far so good but it did eat up half of the hard drive upgrading the os.
