I have recently purchased (2nd hand) a Dell Latitude XPi notebook. It is password protected. Dell offer no support as I am not the registered user. I have tried removing the CMOS battery (for 2 weeks) and it has not cleared the passord. Can anybody help me before I throw a perfectly good notebook from the 10th floor!

Ouch.... never buy anything used.
I have seen a program that allows you to change that password. I forgot which site, but i think it was some weird hacker site.

I found a program that will solve your problem.
Goto http://www.windrivers.com/utility/scripts/util.asp?cat=BIOS
and download the program called killcmos

hahaha
lol i have the same prob with a cpi d266xt.dell not give me the password and thay no i own it told me i must send it back to them .dont think so! i paid £3000 for my and thay want more to just put a password in .and i mean a lot of bills dell get stuffed..will not buy nothing from you no more and ill tell me mates not to . big RIP OFF.. p s if any 1 can help me e mail me please and by the way cant run nothing got no windows dell told me to format it and that will clear it .thay are full of shit!.sorry about that.

You cannot get the password off of the dell latops to easily. It's flashed into the bios. Meaning that you can bull every power source from it or you can pull the bios itself it's not going to matter. The only way i've seen a password removed of this nature was with a special disk. If anyone know or gets a copy of this disk please let me know. I service laptops and it makes it real difficult without it most of the time i just use it for spare parts.

Hi, I have the same problem as you. Did you succeed ? In case of succes, please mail me how you did it. By the way, i'm working on the twentieth floor. Thanks a lot.
Bye.

Hi, I have the same problems as you all have! Does anyone has a solution for the administration password in the BIOS let me know!

LoL, haves sames probs bud.
need 2 flash or password. best bet is password.need help, any1 pls,

Hi, I have the same problem as all you guys.
I will be thankfull to know in case anyone succeed.Kurt

Hi had the same problem, but I demanded the password over the phone, they create a master password by taking youe service tag and the numbers behind the service tag (you should see them when the system asks for the password) and running them through some sort of conversion program I guess, anyway you can demand the password form Dell as long as the service tag is not registerd as stolen.
And you cant just think up a service tag because the master pass semms to be a value created by your service tag.
If anybody knows another way to crack the code or change the service tag i would like know so I can irritate Dell, so any comments welcome GRTZ Iggy

I got the same problem as al of ya
There is a disk for the toshiba laptops that i know of but i dont think it works on DELLs
Any help then email me I would be very greatful

Well I became the proud owner of one of these
password locked pieces of crap a couple of
weeks back (It was cheap and I didn't ask where it came from!!!).I have tried numerous things but to no avail:
Tried removing the CMOS battery for a while (it's built into the touch pad) and it deleted the CMOS but as someone said the bios
password is flashed into the bios and can not be taken out so easily. The only solutions I can think of now:
1. Read the BIOS in a reader and try to crack
their code (should not be that difficult, in fact if someone is game to read the bios into a file, I'm game to to crack it)2. Flash the BIOS chip with another BIOS (not
from DELL) which does not have this password BS.Any Ideas .... anyone ???????

I guess no one has succeeded in the DELLema regarding the CMOS password. Dell has the following -The Express Service Code Generator program- It is available only to Dell Computer Corporation's customers and for their usage. It is allowable only to distribute to owners of Dell computers. When using the generator to obtain an Express Service code for a Dell computer it
is important to note that there is one Express Service Code, per Dell computer and it is representative of a single Dell computer's Service Tag number (System I.D. number). One computer, one Express Service
code. For owners of more than one Dell computer each System's Service Tag
number (System I.D. number) can be converted and utilized upon the need to contact Dell for Technical Support. Using an Express Service code based on the Service Tag of the
equipment allows Dell to reduce the audio menu selections one would normally
receive. Using the Express Service code also assists the customer in the
routing of their call to the correct technical specialists for the Dell
computer the customer is calling about. Dell Computer Corporation thanks
you, our customer, for allowing us to assist in this manner. It is hoped that all Dell customers, will use Dell's Express Service Code when calling Dell Computer corporation's technical support. The EXPRESS.exe extraction includes two programs with which one might obtain an Express Service Code. These are the DOS based generator program called DOSXPRES.exe and a Windows SETUP.exe routine. The Windows program can be installed by running SETUP as one would normally install in
Windows 3.1X, Windows for Workgroups 3.1X, Windows 95, Windows NT, and OS/2 (OS/2 on Dell Dimension products is not supported).
This can be accomplished by following the installation instructions found below."
I havent tried it yet, the laptop is in disassembled at the moment. I will post any success I have.

Hay I have the same problem with my bios, I really need some help. If anyone could get me the master code my my note book I wiuld be really appericated and I will send you $20 if somone can get it for me. My Service Tag Number is 82ZGV

The chip that needs flashing is an AMD AM29F002T-120JC. This needs an EEPROM programmer - maybe someone who understands these things can have a look at this chip and tell us how to get the password off??
What if we reset the chip - pin1 is reset, if we connect this to a voltage what will that do??

I got the express.exe file from Dell's ftp site - but it just generates another number for you - there's no password...it's no help!

I love seeing this... I'm glad to know my new Latitude is a little safer against you guys... Anyway, another problem you might run into... When I set up the bios code, it also set up a harddrive code, which may not be the same as the bios code. Even if you get past the bios code, which I have not seen done yet, you still may not be able to boot without the harddrive code :-). Same holds true if you take the hard drive and put it into another computer, can't get into the harddrive.
I of course set up both codes. Another thing to keep in mind, on Dell's website they say that if you report your laptop stolen, and let them know, if someone calls in trying to get service on the stolen service tag #, Dell will use their caller ID info to see where you are, and call the police...Another reason to buy from Dell.
Those of you trying to get into a computer, that you don't have the code for, more than likely have no bussiness with that computer, and I hope you get busted...

Dell Launches Security Initiative for Enterprise Customers
Oct. 6, 1998--Dell Computer Corporation today announced DellGuard(SM), an initiative designed for customers of Dell's Latitude(R) notebook, OptiPlex(R) desktop, Dell Precision(tm) workstation and PowerEdge(R) server product lines to help guard against the theft of corporate data and computer assets.
For asset protection, DellGuard offers Dell's support in tracking stolen computer systems. If a system is stolen, victims can report their loss by calling 1-877-DELL-THEFT and the tag number will be noted in the Dell product support database. When someone calls Dell seeking support on the stolen computer, the Dell support technician informs the caller that the hardware has been reported stolen and service is denied. The information is then passed on to Dell's Global Security team who will work with the appropriate authorities to assist the owner in retrieving the stolen system.
Information on Dell and its products is at www.dell.com
