I recently upgraded my virus software to the latest McAffe version. Upon my first reboot the software found a backdoor G2 virus in file LVGOBS.exe. This is an application in the windows folder. The software said that the file could not be cleaned. That I should delete the file and replace it with a new one. Each time I try to delete file I'm told I can't delete this file while windows is running. My question is in two parts. 1) What is LVGOBS.exe and where would I find a replacement? 2) How do I delete a file from windows without windows running? I really don't want to have to reformat my hard drive again so soon just to get rid of one virus. Would appreciate any help.

I searched my Windows 95 and found no file named LVGOBS.exe
are you sure it is a Windows 95 file?

Hi,
I have searches within W98 as well, to no avail.
I suggest that you reboot to a boot disk (floppy) and navigate to your windows folder. you can then type "del lvgobs.exe" without the quotes.
Reboot your system and see what falls over and then re-install it. I am convinced that it isn't a windows file and in fact I can't find any reference to this file on the web!!!
Best of luck ;)

during startup when it says "starting windows" press F8 a few times and select menu option...

at the dos prompt type
del c:\windows\LVGOBS.exe
and press enter
file is gone, restart as normal]

hope this helps

And after you do that, odds are very good that every time you try to run something, you will be asked for this file.
If that happens download EXEFIX08, from this link to reset the registry entries.
Also, use Edit_wi and Edit_si to review your win.ini and system.ini files.

Chappie your suggestion worked. I got rid of the application. I have suffered no ill effects that I can see. Perhaps the virus was made to appear as an application because I see no problems when I boot up. Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all.
