I have Win98. I'm using KaZaA to download mp3's and somehow I got this temp file on there. The name is extremely long and it won't let me rename it. It also won't let me delete it because the name is too long. I think it is a .dat file but it doesn't have that at the end of the name. Can someone help me? And if you have suggestions as to how I can use dos to get rid of it, please give instructions. I'm not familiar with using dos. Thanks.

Hi Stephanie,

Right click on the file and select properties.
You will see MS-DOS Name.

Post back with the MS-DOS Name and the location of the file.

Good Day!

Delete it from safe mode.
----------------
or in dos at the prompt...

del c:\foldername\ms-dos name

example= del c:\pictures\photo~.bmp

hit enter. To find the ms-dos name right click the file then select properties. It should show an ms-dos name.

Okay. If that file's extension is REALLY a .DAT one, you're not supposed to kill it since it's a Kazaa file and it's probably bein' used by it, (That's the reason of the Deletion denial).

Also, when checking the properties--please post back the size of the file. Some files that are shared on p2p are humongus and this will also cause problems.

Okay the file is 4KB. I apologize if the file name I write offends anyone. You'll quickly understand why I want this off my computer. Here it goes...my 18 years old ex-girlfriend mel after i f---ed her red
That's what it puts when I check properties. The file name it gives me when I click on it is much longer. The file is located here...C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\KaZaA\My Shared Folder
When I try to do it through DOS it tells me there are too many paramaters. Am I suppose to type the spaces in there too? I've tried it both ways. Without the spaces it tells me that the path isn't found.
It was suggested that I delete it in Safe Mode. I don't know how to do that.
