ok awhile back i partitioned my wifes 10 gig hard drive to two 5 gig portions, but now my wife needs more space for a game on Drive C: in order to do that i would have to get rid of the partition to give her a full 10 gigs on drive C, now is there a way to keep whatever is on drive D when i partition or do i lose all the information. Plus if I did delete the partition without a reformat will it show as 10 gigs on Drive C?
Thanks:ArcticWolf

Before removing the extended partition containing D: you'll need to copy it off to another media--cd-r, zip drive, etc.
Partition magic and perhaps other disk software will allow you to incorporate the former d: partition into the primary c: partition.
But it might be cheaper to buy another hard drive. I noticed circuit city has 80 gig drives for $20 after rebate through Saturday. That's cheaper than you can buy partition magic.
You could copy the 10 gig to the 80 gig. If you kept the partitions at 50/50 then each would be 40 gig.

Easiest is to move some stuff from C: to D: and it costs nothing.
Hi DAVEINCAPS,
I'd like one of them 80G. Let's see. They wouldn't honor the rebate because I'm outside the US. Shipping & insurance, maybe $30. Import tax $20?
What's the sticker price?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Thanks Dave, if it were as simple as buying a new hard drive i would, but in order for me to transfer what is existing on my wifes C drive which includes registry. I think i would have to use a program like Norton ghost i believe, but the partition magic option may be what i need. So thanks for all your help.

Hi AW,
You can't "transfer" the registry or installed windows or windows apps without making a mess.
You need to MOVE some DATA, ie pictures, MPS3s. spreadsheets etc.

You can clone the whole partition onto a larger partition with Partition Magic or one of the drive manufacturer's copying utility. No problem with Win98, but I don't know if it will trigger reactivatiom on XP.

M2, the sticker price on the drive is $90. Then there's a $30 and $40 rebate. (It's been just a few years since a 1 gig drive for $100 was a good deal.)
ArticWolf, I usually use the copy utility that comes with the HD installation disk, as mentioned by wizard-fred. It's free and you don't need to be in a windows session in order to do it.
It might be slightly more difficult since you've got 2 partitions on the drive.
But if partition magic will work then go ahead with that. I think it retails for $50 or $60. You may be able to borrow someone's copy or buy an older version. I've never used it to stretch an existing partition but have been told it will do it.
