Comment:

I mistakenly deleted stimon.exe, thinking it was spyware. Now my digital camera cannot be detected by the system. How do I reinstall stimon.exe? I do still have my original restoration discs as provided by Gateway.

Thanks,

Dr. Mulch

Dr.Mulch,
Stimon.exe is a windows file, it should not be deleted. Since you have deleted it you may be able to aquire it from your setup disc. Also see: Google for info relative to the same problem on Computing.net You may retore it by going back to a previou date and reset your hard drive.

you can restore it, using sfc.exe system file checker, extract> name of file> from windows cd,
also filerecovery programs may be required,if not too late, also camera should have software with it, to to do this, or get generic software from web :)

none at this time

I am aware that stimon.exe is a Windows file. I have already deleted it, and now the goal is to reinstall it. I am unable to find it on my setup discs. I have searched google repeatedly and with many different strings, and have found next to nothing on the problem (and nothing relating to reinstallation). I have not backed up my hard drive, and I can't roll it back afaik.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Is there a place I can download the file?

Thanks,

Dr. Mulch

>Step 3: Reinstall the Imaging Device
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall the USB imaging device. This replaces the registry entries and reinstalls the Still Image Monitor files.<

Definetly shut down, unplug all usb devices.
Boot up, uninstall ALL usb software.
Reboot.
Now you get to reinstall all your USB stuff.
Remember, software FIRST, then plug in USB devices when asked to.

I'll send you the one for W98 (first edition).

Right click My Computer. If it mentions Second Edition 4.10.2222 then I'll send that later.

Thanks, everyone. I'm running Win98SE, so I couldn't use the file you sent me, Derek, but I combined bo_fra's advice with the data at http://www.rickrogers.org/sfc.htm (Oddly enough, that's my father's name, albeit not his site. Thanks, dad!) and we're running again. I appreciate all your help

Great, thx for popping back.

Err...alter your OS to W98SE if you post again, there can be some differences.
