Trying to sort out a friend's problem that started by her not having cleared out her deleted items folder for a long time. Got to the stage that no new items could be deleted and the Deleted items folder could not be emptied. Started by permanently deleting remining items in the InBox, then deleted the Deleted items folder from the store folder. Restarted OE but the deleted items folder was still showing in the folder list but could not be accessed. Had definitely gone from the store folder & numerous er-boots/restarts cannot solve the problem. Before doing a reinstall of OE has anyone got any ideas about this?

Shut down and restart in MS-DOS.

Type del c:\recycled

This will delete the bin and a new empty one will arrive at next boot.

Thanks for reply. Sorry, bit of misunderstanding - it's the 'Deleted Items' folder in Outlook Express, not the recycle bin. I don't think they're that closely connected are they? plus I'm not getting an issue with the Recycle bin.

Search for deleted items.dbx. I'm not sure of the path in pre-NT Os's

Delete that file.

Just an observation though, I wasn't aware that OE had folder size limitations.

Hi, yes I've found the 'Deleted item' folder and deleted it but, even though it's gone from the right-hand pane view, it's still shown in the folder list. Restarting does not recreate a new folder. I've even gone & installed OE6 on top but it's kept the same settings & same 'ghost' of the folder - this is getting annoying now.
I'm getting the user set up on Outlook instead as I don't fancy screwing up by uninstalling/reinstalling IE, but it's just a bit wierd.
Having done a bit of Googling I've found that there is a finite amount of folder space but you normally get a warning about it.

Ooops, sorry about my brain failure in #1.

I see that deleting the dbx file has now been covered.

Thanks for replies - that's the problem, it doesn't recreate itself as it should do.

The Deleted Items.dbx is not a folder. It's a file. With Outlook Express closed, search for that filename in Windows. Delete the file, and the Deleted Items folder in Outlook Express will be recreated, and be empty.
