Hi all, I have a question hope you can help me. I am using window95 (yes, there are ppl still using it :), and there is this quick launch bar at the right bottom side of the window where there are a number of icons. I would like to get rid of some icons there as I do not need them, how do I do that? I cannot find any registry or folders anywhere that I can get rid of them, also the software of the icon does not give option to not startup, even if I specify not to start during startup, the icons are still there.
Help please.
Thanks.

kokomo,
If it's "quick launch" toolbar, you are referring to. Just right-click on them and choose Delelte
Or, do a search for quick launch. Open that folder, and delete the shortcuts you don't want.
Good Luck

I open the quick launch bar and there are only few shortcuts, there are actually much more icons in the quick launch bar....
any idea?

kokomo,
Are they in the ql bar, or the system tray(beside the time)? What happens, if you right-click on them? Also, what are these icons of?

The system tray is in the bottom right corner of the screen. To remove any of them you either have to stop the program from running or use one if it's options to remove the icon. Most don't have that option. To stop the program from running do the following. Go to Start/Run and type msconfig. In the Startup tab deselect any programs that you do not want running all the time. That will remove them from the systray.

THe icons are on the bottom right, beside the clock, so I guess maybe that's what you call system tray? The icons are mainly virus protection software, desktop setting, audio settings, quicktime, real player, sonique player...etc.
I tried running msconfig at the startup-run, but it complains it cannoot find such file....
SOmeone please help!
Thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think msconfig applies to Win95. I'll have to do some checking, it's been so long since I've used 95, that I can't remember how to remove those icons from systray.

If you have access to a win98 machine you can copy msconfig.exe from it to a floppy. Then on the win95 system copy it from the floppy to c:\windows\system.
It's a very handy program to have.

kokomo, You can download "MSCONFIG.EXE (for Windows 95)" at the link below. Windows 95 users should download the file to the C:\Windows\System folder.

Click around inside the System Tray icons for QuickTime and RealPlayer (or in the program screens themselves).
I feel certain if you look around enough you will find an option to not display them on startup/system tray. The exact method and wording depends on the versions - in Preferences maybe.I have always had some version of both and have always managed to get shot of the System Tray icons by using the above method.
