I installed FireFox but don't like it. I tried to remove it through Add/Remove Programs but it didn't work. I deleted it from Windows System and Program Files but when I click on a web page shortcut, it tells me it can't find FireFox. How do I change the shortcuts to look for Internet Explorer? Thanks.

Two ideas:
Run IE Repair (double click "Microsoft IE & Tools" entry in Control Panel/Add-Remove).
Otherwise, scanreg /restore from true DOS should sort it out if there's a registry still around dated before Firefox was installed.
See if anyone has any other ideas.

Might I suggest trying the 'new' Microsoft Windows Live Safety Centre scan that they now offer?
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/update/windows_live_safety_center.mspx
It includes a regsitry clean up scan which I have used 3 times now ( on 3 different computers) that has genuinely semed to help and more importantly didn't cause any new problems.
I know this is Microsoft but it did seem to work.
This machine has been running this build since Feb 2003 when it was a Win98se comp that was upgraded to Win XP Pro. Yes upgrade and NOT a new install. I wouldn't have done it this way other than that there were just too many things on it to do a new install.
Anyway when I did the scan a couple of weeks ago it found over 600 registry entries to 'clean up' and did it without a hitch.
Maybe they got something right this time.
You have to use MS Internet Explorer to run it however.
Good Luck

Can't you just tell IE to 'check if it's the default browser'? (internet options) - or reassociate using the "open with" context menu?

btw
Will Safety Center work with my operating system?
Safety Center supports Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000 Server.

Re your #3 - associations. That went through my mind too but I didn't find a way to associate "web page shortcuts" with anything. Highlight, Shift and right click didn't give the Open With option with these.
I might have missed some silly basic point though - it's been known to happen....

I 'think' allowing the browser to make itself the default will take care of things - I've switched mine over a few times, from IE to Opera to Firefox.
As far as associations, I would think the HTML & URL extensions would be good candidates

I keep forgetting, I added 'open with' to my context menu (no more fiddling)
Thinking (way) back, I'm pretty sure your suggestion of IE repair resets associations as well

You can pick up the HTML & URL extensions in Start/Folder Options/File Types tho.
On balance I think IE Repair might be the easiest thing to try but as always there are various ways to kill the cat.

Yep, plenty of options (except perhaps, the 'Live Safety Centre').
