Hi, I have the cd of windows 98 second edition, and on this computer I only have the first edition. In order to start my network, I wish to have win98SE on this computer but I don't have the upgrade version, so I am wondering how to delete my current version of Windows so that I can install the newer version. I have a cd writer so I will be sure to back-up everything. I would appreciate it if you could tell me how this can be accomplished, thanks.

You don't HAVE to have win98SE installed to network your computer....
Haven't tried upgrading with a full version cd though, so don't know how to help you there....however, on the cd, there should be some readme files one of which should tell you how to install the 98SE over the 98 install....
Good Luck

First make sure that you have a win98 boot disk handy. Restart you computer in Dos and type format C:(that if C is your primary drive). It will ask you if you want to format type Y. when you drive is formated use fdisk to create your file partition table. Than format your drive again. when you done. Restart the computer with the win98 boot disk in the A drive. That will load your cdrom driver (or just change you bios setting to boot from the cdrom).
If you decide to load the OS from your windows boot disk let your floppy in the drive and reboot this will install your cdrom driver. at the dos prompt type the cdrom drive letter
e.g. E:\cd win98 then press enter and type at the next prompt type Setup. It will run some system check. When this is done . Press the Escape key. That should take you to the startup screen of windows. Just send me an e-mail if you have problems. Good Luck
PS: You can also at the c: prompt type format c: /s will keep you cdrom driver
Regarding installing win98SE on top of win98 first edition, not recommanded and that if it works. It didn't work for me. Roy is right you do not need win 98 se to accomplish that task. But I find win98SE more stable. I mean as stable as windows is going to be.
