Defrag C drive 8% fragmented. IS there a better prog to Defrag the drive than Win98 defrag? I am not patient enough to let defrag start and have to wait without using the computer. Is there a defrag that will work in the backround?

Have a look at Diskeeper. It works automatically in the background keeping you defragged. I got mine at Amazon. It's not free but it sure is worth it.

Just a general point, if you use your computer while running any defrag it is likely to keep restarting and take longer.

Once every few weeks, start up the defragger and let it run overnight.
