I'm helping a friend tune up an old packard bell with 1.3gig/drive, win95. There are only 80MB's left and i cant find any programs, the biggist is printshop, about 50MB. temp internet, temp, cookies, all clean....next time i visit i'll look for multimedia files.....but there won't be any...

The desktop has like 8 icons, in add/remove it's little tiny 2MB programs....WHERE did her hard drive go??????

I ran defrag and it's 10% fragmented, but when i run defrag it quits with this message?>>>>error, defrag can't run until other problems are fixed, that leads to scan disk, which i ran,,,,,,it only had 32,000 files to scan.......like i said where is the hard drive??

anyway,it reported 230,000 bad bytes of info, lots of this junk i was able to delete as it scanned........

defrag still quits....

can i overide something here.......

your thoughts,
you guys are awsome,
i have fixed evey problem i eve had with your help.......

Have you tried running a thorough/complete scan with scan disk.

The disk is not compressed ? is it?

just some ideas.

For starters get a copy of the Win Me defrag @ www.surecool.com (for the kibitzers out there, should I send him to MS?)
This utility is super fast & compatible w/W95. BTW, which version is it?

Try to defrag in Safe mode.

Or press ctrl-alt-delete and end task everything except Explorer and Systray. Then try scandisk and defrag.

Another thought,is the show all files option checked & the hide file extensions unchecked? Open an explorer window-clk view tab-clk folder options-clk view tab.
After that use the advanced file find tab & look for files who size is at least 3000kb.
Also look at the content.IE5 folder which has hidden files, it can grow to several hundred Mb's.
