when i try to defragment win98se i get an error message.defrag error 004,anyone know a solution

download windows ME defragment it is much faster anyway. Have a nice day.

004 = The system cannot open the file. I'm not sure why you got that message or what means. I don't think ME defrag will cure the problem, but you should get it anyway.

Generally caused by a corrupted file/directory.
Delete all files in the \windows\temp folder
Empty you browse cache
Empty your recycle bin

Try defrag again

Open defrag and click the settings button and uncheck the 'check the drive for errors' and 'rearrange programs files so programs start faster' options then click ok and then try it. You might also try that from safe mode.
