Hi all:

Win 98, asus k7v (?) motherboard, duron 600, 128 mhz ram.

One day, my friend turns on the power button on the pc, and nothing happens. No post test, no beep codes, no memory check, the screen remains blank.

It never tries to access either drive (a,c, or d). The only thing that lights up is the power led.

Has the processor gone south, or is it the motherboard?

Thanks for your input.

p.s. the pc is a little over a year old.

I had the same problem with my computer. I testet first the power supply, but it seems like yours is working.Test all your drives and exchange your cables. It can be a shortage. It was in my case,I had to put in another motherboard but my processor was fine.

sometimes the power supply can be faulty and still allow the power lights to come on but not supply enough voltage to power up the board. in your case the cpu could be fried or the mobo could be dead or both. step by step elimination of possibilities is the way to go. suppose you buy a new board and it's the cpu or power supply thats at fault, money down the drain.

Disconnect all the drives and pull all the cards to eliminate them as the problem. If you get a beep the motherboard and CPU are ok.
