Compaq M700 P111 196 ram, DVD/CD
Reformatted a week ago and all worked fine, then the CD crapped out so got another, but the thing looked like it would only boot with the old DVD/CD drive, so deleted CD in device manager, shut down, re-boot, tried add new hardware as no plug and play alerts came up, then dicided to check device manager just in case, showing CD so shut down and re started, well almost. After several goes I got less and less, I did get one long and one short beep on one restart? on the next nothing, but the power and battery lights both flashing. Now nothing, no lights, no fans, no life.....

Any advice other than bin it please.

Hi,
What happens if you boot up with power only and take the battery out all together,I had a laptop with a dead battery and it wouldent boot properly with the dead battery installed.
Also try going to the Compaq (HP) website and look for the manuall and see what the beeps mean,But comonly unusuall beeps refer to ram...not allways but more often than not.

The beeps, are not probly not the ram, on all compaq's I have (had) I had to fix a memory problen, it was 2 long beeps, not to be mistaken for the 2 short beeps that signify no errors.

Customer: Do you have any mouse pads?

Salseman, pointing: Over there.

Customer: Great!, will they be comadible with my computer.

G'day Ozyoiy,

I did remove the battery, though indicating fully charged and ran off the adapter only, but no change, thanks for your input.

Hi Neotms88,

I am downloading the manual and trouble shooting guide, will have a look for the beep codes, thanks for the reminder.
