HI, I just recently did a format on my pc and before I could get any virus protection installed I got a couple Viruses, one was Valla, one was Opaserv and I cant remember the others, anyway I used an online Virus scanner to clean out my windows folder so I could get my Vurus scanner installed, then ran a full scan again to find that 105 system files needed cleaning, and one was ddhelp.exe for direct draw. Well after the cleaning I restarted and got an error that ddhelp performed an illegal operation and would be shut down. I had installed DX9 from a game CD so I used the system file checker to replace the ddhelp.exe file from the CD and after that everything was fine, but now while I am using my PC I will get a pop-up saying that ddhelp.exe had been replaced by an older version by something I recently ran and would not work correctly until I restart. So I restart and I get the illegal operation on ddhelp.exe again. So I restore it from the CD again and all is well until it gets replaced again, now my problem is how can I find out what is replacing this file? I deleted EVERY copy of ddhelpe.exe from my puter even the backups but it still gets replaced. Could this be related to my virus infection or is it something else?
When using the replaced version of the ddhelp.exe it gives me an illegal operation on every start up and nothing that uses direct draw will work.
Any idea on how to resolve this or find out what could be replacing it becuase I never have the same things running when it happens

It's no good just replacing DDHELP.exe - you need to reinstall DIRECTX so the file is registered properly. Even though you installed DX9 recently, it's possible that THAT install DIDN'T actually replace DDHELP because a later version already existed. Your "reinstalled" DDHELP won't actually be used until you reboot - at the time you replace it, the existing one is loaded in memory.

just install again! this time make sure you have a good virus checker installed before you connect to the internet, and as soon as you connect to the net, update the virus checker
