Ok, when windows starts up it loads a few items in the systray, then the cursor starts lagging. If i press ctrl+alt+del it says ddhelp[Not Responding]. If i wait a like a minute, then the mouse becomes normal again and the rest of the items load. The cursor also lags in IE when i goto specific sites such as www.microsoft.com. I defraged and reinstalled windows but still no luck. Could anyone plz give me some suggestions on wat they think is wrong or wat i should do to fix this problem?

Thanx In Advance

Perhaps you could try re-installing or updating DirectX.

Run msconfig> startup tab from the start> run menu. This will show you what programs or processes are loading at startup. Sounds like it could be spyware. Run AdawareSE & Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3. Find both here: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22262,00.asp

I scaned for spyware with both of those programs, it found spyware but the problem still occurs. And the only processes are Avg(Virus Scanner), Msn Messenger, and Systray.
However I found that right when the desktop loads, wen i press ctrl+alt+del then there are way more processes but they disappear after. And I scanned for Viruses just so u know...

Search the registry for all instances of ddhelp.exe and delete them and make sure it's not in msconfig startup?

ddhelp.exe should be in your c:\windows\system folder - just don't delete it from there - that's the only place it should be!

Where else does it appear on your computer and registry?

Ddhelp.exe is a windows help file but it might have been replaced by a spyware file. Checkout the fixes suggested in responses 1 and 6.

The spyhunter program needs to be regestered to remove the spyware... isn't there any free one?

Do you know how to use regedit?

I would search the registry for all ddhelp.exe entries and delete them. As long as ddhelp.exe is in your windows\system folder you should be ok. Then I'd use RegSeeker (download free from download.com) to clean up any other redundant registry entries.

start - run - regedit

once in there go to edit (up the top) and select find - type ddhelp.exe

once it finds an instance of it write down where it is - the address should be at the bottom of the screen - then hit F3 to find the next instance of it

let us know how you get on

Spyhunter is reputed to be a poor choice. Ad-aware & Spybot are free and widely considered as two of the best.

Click here for some useful security tools

Why don't they make computers that will do what we think we want them to do?

ok, i read all the above suggestions and none are close, like anyone else. The problem is NOT directx, (ddhelp has been in use since 2002), it is not the Video driver of ATI or other mfg. it is Java.
if you loaded Java on TOP of an excisting windows Java, mostly on win98 it will cause this conflict. Even Sun & MS hasn't figured that out.
Unload all of your Java's and reload the original Java for windows (msjavax86.exe)and you will be in bussiness. If you get Java downloads with your Games, your problem may be back. Good luck anyone. If this is not working, I like to know, so far I have been successful 100%.

Mate, this sounds great - but when I tried to unload my Java installs I couldn't find a way to do it. I know something i installed put a Java thing in and I know MS did, too, but I can't find anything about them anywhere.

I'm running win98. I vaguely think winamp might have been the thing I saw installing something about java.

Any help would be good. It's really annoying. Brings down my IE (v6.0) regularly.

Steve, I have the same problem as you.

I noticed that it happens ONLY when automatic activation on Norton AntiVirus2003 at boot time is activated (!!!).
If I disable it and activate NAV manually, no problem.

I tried every technique that I found in this thread, including reinstalling latest DirectX version and uninstalling JAVA, but nothing changed.

My config is Windows Me, no virus, no spyware. Having my Firewall active or inactive does not make any difference either.

Any idea ?
