the date on mt computer went to 1980 instead of 2000. I know very little about computers. I can't find a book for win.3.11. I don't know what the next 3 lines want.

You do not say what model of computer. Anywhy go to the MS-DOS Prompt. Type in DATE and press the Return Key. Enter todays date as 23/01/2000 (Or whatever day it is) and press the Return Key again. Turn your Computer Off, Then after about 30 seconds back on again. Now if your PC is at least a 386 the date should remain in the 21st Century.... No Software Patch Needed. You will however need to update Windows 3.1 File Manager if you use it. As it will display todays date as 23/01/;0
Download the File Manager Update from Microsoft or via my Resource Site at:
http://www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk
Also goto the Control Panel and Tick 'Show Date as Century' Box to change Date display to 4-Digit Format.

Sorry Connie,
The Date Setting via MS-DOS above is correct. However I then went on how to update Windows 3.1..
For Windows 95:
Run the Windows 95 Y2k Update.
In Control Panel, Date/Time - Change Short Date from MM/dd/yyyy to MM/dd/yyyy (USA Format)For Windows 98:
Install Service Pack 1 followed by Control Panel Change.

Connie, thats so strange, a friend of mine sent me an e-mail and it was dated 1980. Now I know what happened to her computer. Please let me know how you made out, and in the meantime I'll send her this page. good luck
