data transfer between hard drives

I would like to transfer data from my laptop hard drive (IBM IDE 9.5mm 2.5") to my HP 8750C Hard drive running Windows 98 Second Edition. Unfortunately, I cannot set up a network as the controller on my laptop had died. I have found an adapter to link my laptop hardrive to the PC, however, I'm not sure I have it connected properly or if I need a certain driver to get it to retrieve the data.

Laplink does not work because it requires that both computers install it. The laptop, from which the data is to be transferred is no longer in working order. The data is to be transferred directly from the 9.5mm 2.5" hard drive or installed into the PC somehow.

Hmmm - is your laptop hopelessly dead ? (it just needs to be able to boot to c: in DOS to use laplink).

It's for a USB connection, if you need one for a para. port, that should lead down the right road.
