Hi Guys

I have a big problem here.

I installed Chessmaster8000 on my computer in the D:\ but when I was trying to run it it said that the files are corrupt.

I then uninstalled the game everything was going fine & it said that the installation is compelete. I just pressed ok and to my big surprise each & every folder each & every file was deleted only icon there is uninstall.exe

Can anybody help me in this regard.

The drive is physically present over there.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards

Naman Jandial

I'm assuming your D contained all your data files? Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?

Are you saying that the game uninstall utility erased ALL your directories and files on D:?

Boot to raw dos and see if there are any directories/files on D:. Use the dir/a command when looking around. If they're gone in raw dos too, you could try Drive Rescue to find the lost data. There's a windows and dos version on my webspace. This is the last freeware version.

Hi Guys
There is folder in my C:\Windows\PIF
it contains a dos file named cvt
Heading is MS FAT to FAT32 Converter
It reports an error message:
"converts 16bit file system to 32bit file system.
Usage CVT D: Where D is the drive to convert.
The conversion was cancelled.
Ok"

What does this means Shall I rerun CVT in the dos This file I think was precreated.

Thanks for the help

This is the (98) utility for converting (eligible) FAT16 drives to the FAT32 file system. It's usually run from within windows.

Had you run this utility on your D: drive and ~then~ you found that files were lost? You're posting isn't really clear on this, and now I'm a bit confused.

Undelete ( http://www.executive.com ) has a feature which is run from CD-ROM (so you're not installing the software potentially over the deleted files you are trying to recover) called "Emergency Undelete".

http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/163837.html

Hi Guys got some great new for you.

I've been able to restore the data.
My heartly thanks goes to Dan Penny Who provided me with the wonderful softwares on his webspace, Mesich, Derek, Tony Esper, Larry Sipsak, Shatrughan, Heddalora and the whole computing.net team for the help, love & support they gave & will give to me.

Nothing much I ran the Drive rescue software it showed me the files that were accidentally deleted. I then restored them to some other drive & later copied them to their origin.

However within these 2 days I encountered one more problem of the Attachment Downloading Which I had it earlier in the Ref No. # 162705 on the forum.

I had to copy the software from a cybercafe but thanks I was able to get it in time.

My parents too sympathised with me & explained to me that I should not download any more games. I think now its time to go through it also.

One more thing I like to ask is that if wish to creat a backup of my computer in the Dos mode then:
What commands should I use to create the Backup?
What commands should I use to Restore that Backup?
Can I specify particular files to be backed up?
Can I view the backup in the windows when created in the Dos?

My Dos version is 4.10.2222
System is Win 98; Celeron Processor; 128 MB Ram

Is Gendel.exe a virus?

Thanks for the help & sorry for the new questions.

Regards & Have fun

Good luck to all.
