How can I convert a DAT file in to a Word file

If the file contains only ascii text, just rename the extension from *.dat to *.doc. It will then open in word. After doing any reformatting of the text you can then save as a normal word document.

Thank you. But it does not work that way.
When I rename, it continues to be a DAT file.
Is this a compuserve problem?

Dat files cannot be converted to Word files.

"DAT" files are not data files as if oft assumed. Even if you could open it, it would be garbage and would have no meaning to you.
