Comment: keep getting myself in deeper and deeper... I installed a patch for my specific model of compaq presario(1610) that was supposed to fix some problems with the PC slots... anywayz, now it gives me an error when I boot up saying that vmm32.vxd is damaged or doesn't exist, and then it powers down. I tryed copying the vmm32.vxd from other computers, but it still gives the error. Anyone got a fix? --Occam

Reply: (edit)You can't use a vmm32.vxd from another computer, as this file is a list of all the .vxd files your computer loads at startup, and is built for your computer when you install windows. You must reinstall windows. Al

Reply: (edit)I fixed mine by following the instructions from the UMAX site. Seems most folks that this happens to own a UMAX Scanner. Do you??

Reply: (edit)nope, don't have a umax scanner, and it looks like their directions don't apply to me... I found a site which gave instructions on re-"compiling" this file, but the process didn't work for me... If anyone would like to see it though, check out at: http://www.infinisource.com/techfiles/vmm32.html

Reply: (edit)I had a similar problem with a VCOMM file, it is related to yours and vmm32.vxd. I found some info on this web page. there is a bat file that is suppose to extract the files needed but it didn't work for me so I used the info in the bat file and extracted them manually. http://www.mcs.net/~revolutn/win98_vxd_fix.htm. Hope this helps...
