The files that you are being asked to copy from the Windows 98 CD are files needed for Windows Networking. All you need to copy to your hard drive is the contents of the win98 directory.

While it can be a very good idea to copy over the Win98 CAB files to the hard drive, that's not essential (at the moment)

When you put the CD into the drive when prompted, you need to 'point' to the \Win98 folder on the CD-ROM, as that is where the Windows files are found

Try and focus on what has been said - the Windows CABinet files are on the CD in the \Win98 folder

You don't have to copy anything, just select that folder on the CD when prompted for the files during the driver installation process.

If you like, sure, you can copy that folder ( \Win98) onto your hard drive for faster, guaranteed access, but it isn't essential for the purposes of installing this driver

If you do copy the folder, you can also edit the registry so that Windows will look in that folder without requiring any action on your part

If that's the case, then copying won't put you any further ahead.

The option should be presented at some point during the process - what happens when you hit 'OK'?

"also i tranferred the entire windows disk to the hard drive."

You don't need the entire CD - but that's been mentioned a few times now.

sometime when you install the driver it will ask for file from win98 it may refer to the win98 folder in the cd driver disk, not the win98 os disk itself. I run into this many times. You should look at the dlink cd/floppy if there is a folder name win98.

If you copied the files from the 98 cd to the hard drive then, when it asks you to insert the 98 cd just click OK or Next or whatever will cause it to continue. It will say it can't find the files it's looking for and will ask where else to look for them. THEN you can browse to wherever you copied the .cab files (the win98 folder from the cd) and it should find what it needs there.

Also, when it asks where else to look, it should show the file name it's looking for. If you can't get it figured out, post back that name and we can tell you if it's on the 98 cd.

It's also possible the files it's looking for are on the network card installation disk. Sometimes the installation process or 98 gets confused and asks for the wrong disk. Again, post back the file name and we may be able to help.
