hi, I posted my query in the answer section, sorry..
question: logged onto spinway-spiegel free web / open IE5.01 / says "page not found" / cannot find server / c:\windows\system\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm appears at bottom of window.
I've uninstalled spinway & IE5.01
installed spinway w/no browser, then installed IE4.0 from CD...same problem.
Reinstalled Win98 2nd....same problem.
Downloaded patch for problem from MSFT site (on other comp.)Installed it....same problem.
Copied shdoclc.dll file from other comp. Tried to install it but it wouldn't let me overwrite it. Tried to delete it but it denied access to it.
NOW WHAT? Please help. Bill

Get used to it. Pages on the web sometimes disappear for no reason. Try to hit refresh as it may have been a timing problem. Answer this post with the address you are trying to go to and someone will try it and see if it is still there.

What the above post is trying to say is this is the windows default error page. If you try to go to a site that no longer exists then this is the page that comes up.

I'd recommend you have both Netscape and IE on your computer. At times, IE will display that dnserror screen and then when I switch over to Netscape it either loads fine or gives a more detailed explanation of what the problem is.

Going along with wcr3d, have you tried changing your home page?
