Comment:

I have installed a Creative PCI v92 modem. No drivers were supplied - except those for 98SE, 2k, XP.

I try to download the 98SE driver but in device manager the modem says that it could not install drivers. I have searched for 98 drivers but I cannot find one anywhere.

Anybody know whether drivers are available? Or did I buy the wrong modem?

Please help and save me wasting more of my life!

Here's the Creative site for the W98 drivers for the Blaster PCI v92

http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?Centric=199&OS=4

(Try Google yourself, next time -- it's a GREAT search engine for just about anything)

Cheers folks.........Got it off modem-drivers.com. Creative don't have one.

Hopefully that will do it, I'm sure it's a driver problem.

Can't believe they sell 'generic' modems with no software pre w2k. Must be loads of people on older systems.

Sorry, Andy, but I did look shortly after you posted and couldn't find anything. I was hoping someone else had a brainstorm.
-"You have selected Modem Blaster V.92 PCI.
To receive support for a different product, click here.
Sorry, driver files and software updates are currently not available for your product running under Windows 98." Creative
-But..." If you run Windows 98 (FIRST edition) then install the Win95 drivers or you'll have a hard time getting it to work."(If that's your model number.)

Andy good luck with that Creative Modem Blaster V.92. I dumped mine a few months ago, poor performance. I hope yours works better than mine did.

Like it or not, reality is that drivers for Windows versions before W2000 and XP are going to become increasingly not available as those older operating systems become no longer supported by more and more hardware and software providers. The answer, of course, is to upgrade to a contemporary operating system that is supported.

The problem with V.92 is that ISPs are kinda reluctant to upgrade all their modems. Your lucky if your ISP has doen so. You might run into performance problems if they haven't.

Having owned a Creative Modem Blaster V.92 under win98se with the Cd rom software for loading and standard drivers available as well as at their site, I don't believe the OS has anything to do with this particular problem, drivers very possible. The one thing I did not do was check the modem reviews prior to buying mine, it was rated very low, and the performance even with good telephone lines and additional tweaking was poor. Went to a US Robotics and my disconnects and bps are pretty much at 46-48bps vs 31-33bps with the Creative.
