Comment:

For reasons that I won't delve into I want to remove all trace of Creative SB Audigy 2 from my computer.

I have been to Control Panel's "Add/Remove Program" and at the "60 percent complete stage" I get the message "Unhandled Exception. Error Number 0x80040201. Setup will now terminate".

I have removed all trace of Creative from "C:\Program Files" and "My Computer/Properties/Device Manager".

I have been into the registry and removed all trace of Creative from "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software" and "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software".

The soundcard has been removed from the computer, but STILL "SB Audigy 2" is one of the listed programs in Control Panel's "Add/Remove programs" and STILL I get the aforementioned error message when I try to delete SB Audigy 2.

What else can I do other than drop the computer into a vat of Nitric Acid?

ANY help is welcome.

Tweakui has an option to clean up Add/Remove. A search will turn up many places to download it.

Sorry Craig, I've tried it but it doesn't work. Maybe I'm stupid.

Hi Ted.

I have two suggestions.

Try removing the Audigy 2 drivers and software from Safe Mode.

This may not work though since you have already partially removed it.

The second thing to try - If you still have the soundcard available, reinstall it and its software.

Then remove the drivers and software again from Safe Mode.

Unhandled exception could be another program running in memory that is interfering with the removal operation.

Removing the software in Safe Mode prevents other programs from running in memory and may lead to a successful removal.

Here is a link to uninstalling software in Safe Mode.

Hello Linda,

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, it didn’t work :-( I think the problem was largely mine because I had been deleting anything that mentioned “Creative” or “Sound Blaster Audigy 2” – not to be recommended, I suppose.

With a little help from Bill Gates on the Web, I eventually found my way into the Registry and found the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{E82BF103-904F-49C0-B77F-6EC110B71E87}

Which I deleted. Hey Presto! It seems to have worked :-)

PCs will never catch on, you know, they are just an overnight sensation.
