Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to create a copy of Win 95 on floppies? I've just bought a laptop which is running Windows 98 at the mo. I have installed an external CD-RW (with caddy) but this won't be detected once I reformat. I can't enable it in the BIOS (I've tried) so have decided to install Win 95 via floppies instead. (If anyone's wondering why I'm downgrading from 98 to 95 it's coz it's an old laptop with a diddy processor and not much memory so 95 will run slightly better than 98!). So...can I copy the contents of the Windows 95 CD onto my slave HDD (on my PC) and make a backup copy of it onto floppy's?

The windows Cab files are to large to fit on floppies unless you format the floppies with a 3rd party program to a larger size.
Is your external CD-RW a USB device? Is so make sure you install a version of windows 95 that can handle USB support.

Go here and download the ultimate boot disk. This will give you cd-rom support to install Win 95.

Thanks for your quick replies...and your help. The CD-RW is an IDE device that's connected through an external parallel caddy (the laptop's too old for USB's).
I've downloaded the ultimate boot disk..do I use this the same way as I would any other boot disk?

Yes. You need to run the Ultimate Boot Disk executable with a blank floppy in the floppy drive. It will format the floppy and then install the files to the floppy. When finnished making the floppy reboot your computer with the Ultimate Boot Floppy in the floppy drive.
Good Luck.

You could also try this on your Win98: http://www.litepc.com/98lite.html
With that and your Win95 CD you can make 98 nearly as fast as 95, while still having full compatibility with anything that needs 98 or higher. (And it'd save you the trouble reinstalling.) They have a free version here: http://www.litepc.com/preview.html

You will still have to install the IDE to parallel drive in the bootup floppy. It will have to detect the interface first befroe it will detect the cd drive. What is the brand of the external cd rom, backpack? you will still need the driver for it to run inwindows too.

Thank you once again for all your help. Hopefully I can get something sorted! The CD caddy by the way is by Datawise (parallel) and the CD-RW (IDE)is Philips. I have drivers for the caddy on floppy.
