I am installing windows 98 on a new computer. Apparently I need a win98 start up disk to begin. Are there any places I can download these files from or buy them. All the websites I can find just say create it using the operating system!

you shouldnt need a startup disk unless you plan on formating your hardrive, what operating system does your computer have on it right now as long as you can access your cd rom you can install win 98

You will need a start up disc if you originally upgraded from win95 to win98 and are now going to install win98 from scratch ie. format/reinstall. The startup disc carries over your win95 licience for the scratch install.Otherwise you will be prompted for a win98 licience which you may or may not have.

if the drive is already formatted, see if your BIOS can be set to boot from the CD-ROM drive. if you have a full version of Win98, you should be fine. if it's an upgrade CD, setup will prompt you to insert your Win95 disk as proof of your eligibility for the upgrade. you do not need the startup disk as proof.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the following method:
1) Under control panel, go to Add/Remove Programs
2) Click the Startup tab
3) Create Disk
