I am running Windows 98 and have the 30 day trial (28 more days left) of the AVG anti-virus program. Before I downloaded the program, the problem came in the form of random exception errors that would shut down most of my programs as soon as I started them, and eventually shut down Windows. After I downloaded AVG anti-virus, it "deleted" it. But it kept coming back!!! I keep getting alerts from AVG that there is a virus, and when I try to delete it, it either comes back, or is undeletable. The program says "the following action is not available for this oject", and if I try and find it in Windows Explorer, I don't see it. If I delete AVG, the problem of the exception errors and shut downs comes back. I only have 28 days left on the trial version, so I need a to figure this thing out or I'm screwed!
The file name of this virus is:
MDCMS.EXE and is located in my Windows\System
directory
Also, sometimes I get MDCMS[1].exe or MDCMS[2].exe in my temporary internet files directory. These are the ones that I can't find/delete. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks -nob

Just rushing past. Note that there is most definitely a "free" AVG version if you look carefully.
There is a Security & Virus forum by the way.
