hi there can anyone help with this weird problem

when trying to boot up computer, i get the message "cpu fan not connected" and a long bleeping noise then the computer shuts down.I know that the fan is connected and working fine, i know this some thing to do with a bios setting, and can be changed but the computer shuts down so fast it wont let me get into bios to change it, any suggestions?

Reply:

reset your BIOS through the jumpers (make sure you take the battery out first

then re-try

if all else fails, change your fan and re-try

Some motherboards have jumpers, some have two solder points, and some have no jumpers.

On some motherboards you apply power for two to five seconds after changing the jumper, and some you don't.

All in all, it's best to follow the manufacturers instructions in the motherboard manual. If you don't have the manual, post the make and model/Rev level of your board, or your system make and model if it's a proprietary system (DELL, HP, Compaq, etc).

It's a good day when you learn something

Have a look here. On the left click on "Troubleshooting" then click on "Mainboard".

Most likely you will have to replace the fan. It is probably not sending out the signal that it's spinning.

You may be able to enter cmos/bios setup and disable or change the fan monitoring. Sometimes a fan running just fine but at a different RPM than the bios finds acceptable will cause that message. Or, there are usually 2 or 3 different fan connections on the motherboard. Connecting it to different one may avoid the message.
