Could not open the TWAIN source error message is being received when I try to import to Photoshop 7 from a UMAX Astra 1200S scanner. Scanner works fine as a copier. Photoshop version is new. Also receive message that scanner is 'busy' and the 'link failed' before I get the TWAIN error message.

I had a similar problem with a new Epson scanner. I finally discovered that the program "Still Image Monitor" had to be running to make the connection from PhotoShop to the new scanner.

Luke Man - What is the "still image monitor"? Is it part of the Epson software or photoshop? How did you start it running? UMAX uses "vistascan" v3.55 as it's software and I have tried to 'have it running' before going into photoshop - but maybe I haven't started it up correctly - that's the reason why I ask how you got "SIM" started.

C:\windows\system\Stimon.exe is still image monitor within Windows 98SE. I start it via Start Up Cop. I believe this application is part of Windows and not part of the scanner or PhotoShop software.

KHHERBST; Look for "stimon" on the web page below:

Thanks for the info. I now have the scanner working by accident. I tried inserting a scanner item into a word document. It required a part of WORD that I had not installed. After installing that feature from the original Office 2000 CD-ROM, the scanner item loaded into the document. I then tried to IMPORT again with PHOTOSHOP and it worked. The install probably 'refreshed' something that had beeen lost. Thanks again however for the web link. Their 'task list' is going to be great for clean up. I'm investigating that next. I'm considering this issue closeable for now. Kathy
