is there a way to prevent getting a "Stop: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error /SystemRoot/System32/ntdll.dll" message when installing windows XP? why does the file become corrupt when installing?

Hi Ryan,
Check your bios settings for UDMA and Disable that feature.
The setting on my particular motherboard is within the Intergrated Pheripherals Menu.

Find an old 98 boot disk, boot up the system from floppy, load drivers for the cd-rom, At the a: prompt type cd c:\windows\system32 then ren ntdll.dll ntdll.bak .. hit enter cd e: (whatever is your XP cd) e: cd i386 e:\i1386 copy ntdll c:\windows\system32 .. hit enter It will copy a non corrupted ntdll.dll file back into the right location and you should be able to start just fine .
