corrupt LPT1: software...won't print

I have eliminated both cable and printer by hooking them up to a different computer. I'm getting an error message telling printer not ready or not getting signal to printer. I called tech support they had me go into settings-control panel-system-device manager and remove printer port (LPT1). Then I shut down the system and during reboot it detected new hardware and installed the necessary drivers. After testing, it still did not correct the problem. I was told I had corrupt software. I was looking for an update to the driver to replace it, but can't find it. And can't find it on my other PC to copy it. PLEASE HELP!

if you restart to dos and enter DIR > PRN
does it print?

Have you checked the LPT1 settings in the Bios?

I tried the print command in dos...same error message. This is a E-Machine 433i. I can't seem to find the hot button to access BIOS. i tried Esc, F1, F2, F10, and Delete. None of them worked? any more suggestions???????

if you can't print from dos you have a hardware problem with the lpt port.
