Have you used FDISK and FORMAT /S on the new drive? It is not sufficient to simply copy the files, as a boot sector and master boot record need to be created.

Have you checked that you have copied Autoexec.bat and Config.sys to the root directory c:\ of the new drive ?

Try this in a Windows environment. 1st do a full format of the drive. (ignore the 1st warning prompt, & just make darn sure it's the right drive) Now assuming your copying to D:\ type this in the run (command) box xcopy c:\*.* d:\*.* /s/c/h/e/r/k Well...success?

I don't know just who "Valiant IT - Technical Services Unit" are but they don't seem to know much sometimes.
No flavour of Windows 9x requires either autoexec.bat or config.sys to operate and the presence or otherwise of them has got absolutely nothing to do with this problem.
Ioiou's post should do it otherwise use Ghost to clone one drive to the other.

if you just do copying, then your duplicate can never work. get some software and clone it instaed of copying.

zzyzx you're wrong, it can be done and I and others I know have done it several times.
Perhaps you'd like to explain to us all just why it "can never work".
We wait in anticipation...
