How can I easily copy large files from my old computer to my new computer? The old computer uses Windows 95 and the new computer uses Windows 98. I heard that you can connect the two computers together but I don't know how to do this. Can anybody out there explain this to me?

You can set up a home network to connect the two computers together or, you can pull the hard drive from the old computer and install it as a second hard drive and then copy all the files you want.

Use Direct Cable Connection. In Win98, 0pen wizard in Programs / Accessories / Communications (I can't tell you what it is in Win95) & follow directions to set up the computers. If you use serial ports to connect, you need a null-modem serial cable (or a connector for one end of a regular serial cable that does the same thing, which is x-over the send/receive connections.) For parallel you need a LapLink cable.

uhhhh there are a couple ways of doing this,

1. you could connect the 2 via parallel port, however it would be very slow, and I'm not sure even how it would work

2. you could buy 2 network cards connect them via a special twisted pair cable made to connect 2 pc's together

3. you could open up both machines and lazily run the secondary ide cable to the drive of the old pc then turn on the old pc, then boot the new machine then transfer the files.

4. if you have a usb in both machines you could transfer files with a usb hub.

Basicly it would probably be easier/ faster/ cheaper on you to just take it to someone who will transfer the files for you.

P.S. I've done #3 ;)

...and remember, transfer has to be limited to data files or stand alone (no drivers or registry associations) applications. Any app that uses an Install program can't be just moved fromone drive to another.

I'd go with the network...
I've got 2 comps hooked up via network cable and hub. The good thing about this, you can get internet access on both for the price of one.
BUT...networks have been known to caus elots of problems....In fact! it took me 3 days to hook up my comps, (had to reformat 1) and in the end, neeed ahub
