I have MS Word 2000 and doing a school assignment on Nuclear power plants. Before I was able to copy a picture from the net and paste it into a Word document.
Now, suddenly, I don't know why, whenever I tried to paste the images, it just puts down the link instead!!!(e.g. I get a link like this { INCLUDEPICTURE "http://www.geocities.com/Rainforest/Canopy/3643/reactor.gif"\*MERGEFROMATINET }
And now all my Word files I open with images from the net suddenly has links instead!!!
Reinstalled Word = no use!
Anyway to solve this?

Try this, it might work. Right click on the image you want in word and save it to your hard drive (removing it from all links that way). Now copy, or cut and paste into your word document. Sometimes improvements aren't as good as they look, that's why I still use word perfect 8 instead of 2000. Good luck.

Well, I don't have word 2000 but I looked at word 97 and tried that -copied a picture and then pasted it into word. Are you sure you are not copying the shortcut? Just to make sure go to accessories and open clipboard viewer (immediately after copying) to see what you have- it should be the picture.
If it is there, and not the link, then I would guess there is a setting in Word that needs to be changed. If the link to the file is there you are either copying it incorrectly or there is a setting in Internet Explorer that needs changing. Also, you might try the paste special option and see if you have bitmap as an option.

Don't have 2000, but you might give these a try:
Insert/Object/Create From File tab. See if your "Link To File" box is checked. If it is, uncheck it.
Also, go into your Tools/Options and see if you can find anything in there that might affect your pics.
See "Link Field" in the Help file of Word. Although you are not actually inserting a field, this may give you some ideas and thoughts of what is happening.

Thanks for the ideas people! It's back to normal now!!!
I found out when I went to options, on the view tab and unchecked the Field codes
