If you are buying a new hard drive, like Maxtor and others, many of them now come with software to do this.

Otherwise, you need Norton Ghost or a similar program for this.

And if they don't come with the software, you can usually go their web site and download it.

There is a dos utility called xxcopy which
can do this. I think that xxcopy is
shareware or freeware but not sure about
that part.

If you use the switch /clone xxcopy will
make a clone of one drive to another. For
example

xxcopy /clone C: D:

Hi,

XXcopy probably will. But so will xcopy, which you already have..

You ned to boot in DOS, then:

xcopy [old HD letter]:\windows [new HD letter]:\windows\/s/h

If you want to boot from the new drive:

sys [new HD letter]:

Hi all
Mechanix2Go- correct me if I'm wrong but xcopy has problems with long file names, and only will copy the dos short name.

TopFarmer, you are absolutely correct. Xxcopy however, overcomes these problems.
