Go to http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/dvd_backup_guide/english/index.htm and start reading. You can do it but it takes time. Basically, you have to rip the DVD to your HDD, then use software to convert it to AVI, then re-encode to VCD/S-VCD and burn it to the CD. Another site is www.vcdhelp.com. Remember the legality regarding to copying materials.

Yes, it can be done, but keep in mind the quality suffers a great deal.

Ryan,
it can be done. i've done it, but...
1) it takes 3 or 4 different proggies. I d/l all from the internet
2) mattcafc (message above) is right. you can't fit the ENTIRE DVD onto 1 cdr but you CAN put it on multiple discs. I put "Something about Mary" to 2 discs (I own my original copy, by the way). I did just the movie itself (no trailers or extras)
3) i have a step-by-step guide on how to do this. I suggest you first visit some of the following sites to become familiar with dvd/vcd/cdr content.
4) if you post your e-mail to THIS board I can send you the guide. I'm at work now so it won't be until this evening (at the earliest)
5) please observe all the copyright crap. read these sections on some of the sites below,

www.area450.com/create/minidvdguide2-3.htm
www.riphelp.com/articles/dvdripping_3.html
www.vcdhelp.com/vcddvdr.htm
www.vcdhelp.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=11

There are lots more. search google, hotbot....
