I have Windows 98,after downloading quicktime it took over all my digital pictures I have downloaded, what used to be jpeg icons and files are now quicktime. I do not want them in that format as not all friends can view them when I send, and I want to save pics to disk or CD. There is a "view/folder options" menu for the folder, and 3 tabs of "GENERAL/VIEW/FILE TYPES" is shown. I do not know how to tell the quicktime files to change, or open, in jpeg. I tried uninstalling quicktime and then NONE of the pictures opened, so I re-installed. someone suggested "Hold the shift key and right click the image file. Then select "open with" and pick the program you want to use to view the file".I don't have this option. Can anyone help?

janie, Open Quick Time Player, click edit/preferences/QuickTime preferences, use the drop down arrow to locate File Type Associations and click it so it's in the narrow window, uncheck Windows File Types and Internet File Types, leave Mac File Types checked. This should solve your problem and QuickTime will now be associated with actual QuickTime Files.

You mentioned this:
"Hold the shift key and right click the image file. Then select "open with" and pick the program you want to use to view the file"
Make sure you "left click the file to highlight it first", then follow the above procedure. This might be why you didn't appear to have this option.
Having said that Tufenuf's suggestion should do the trick.
