convert .prn to .txt.

How can I save a .prn file to a .txt file. This a large file about 100 MB and I have managed to do this some time in the past. Just can't remember how I did it. I want to finally change the file to .xls so I can do searches not possible with the original program. I have Windows. Thanks so much for your time!!

I don`t know anything about .prn files, but you might try renaming the file with .doc extension to see if it will open in windows wordpad.(and then save as .txt) ?

Changing the file extension does not change the content. If Wordpad could not open the PRN file before, changing the extension will not do anything!

.prn files are generated specifically for the printer that was default at the time the file was created. All you can do is print them.

you can print a txt file by typing: type file.txt >prn (at the dos prompt)

What you probably have is a postscript file! (If the first 2 characters i the file is #! , it is a postscriptfile). To view the file (and probably convert it to PDF format) try Ghostview , can be found at "http://www.wavelet.org/who/wim/ghost/index.html" and download
