Hi there. Ihave a problem running a dos based program in windows, it comes up with the message "insufficient conventional memory". The program runs fine in dos, but i would like it to run through windows. How can i allocate more memory to this program?? I have tried to run memmaker from the dos prompt, but only get the message "bad file name......" Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

Stuarty.

Memmaker is long gone. In windows, right click the program you want to run and choose properties. Go to the Memory tab and tell it you want 640k (or whatever) of conventional memory. Click OK a few times and try running your program again.

Hi,

It could be not so simple as WireHead stated. If his advice wouldn't work, try this:

1. At the top of Config.file add the lines:

DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.exe RAM M3

(assuming you have your windows files in C:\Windows folder). Then all other DEVICE statements in Config.sys replace by DEVICEHIGH.

2. In Autoexec.bat files before any executable program add LH with following space.

Good luck, Igor M

IF you do not have a compressed drive
use these lines in your System.Ini:

[options]
drvspace=0
dblspace=0
BootWarn=0
This is my free memory breakdown.
And I am using Ems.

Free 657,648 (642K)Total
628,768 (614K)Conventional
28,880 (28K)Upper
