Comment:
I have a Micron and a Dell I want to network together so they can share peripherals and an Internet connection. What is the best way to do this? NIC cards and a hub, I assume, would be the best. Any thoughts?

Reply:
option 1: direct cable connection via croosver cable and ICS.
option 2: Hub and ICS
option 3: Hub and Router
option 4: Internet Gateway with file sharing capabilities
These are the most typical ethernet setups for home users. More information is necessary to advise further. What are your priorities? Is speed more important than cost? Security? Dial-up or cable/DSL? LAN or WAN?

http://www.practicallynetworked.com (Tim Higgins'site) covers all basics/upwards of networking; also DSL/cable/DUN sharing.

Minimum kit:
a NIC in each PC; a Cat-5 UTP cross-over cable; software you already have. Helmig and Tim will take you through the process of setting it all up. You do 'not' need a hub for a 2-PC LAN system.
