Hi All,
This is probably off the wall, but here goes.
I have two identical USR 56K external fax modems. Is there any way of hooking them up, say in parellel, to get a faster connection than one alone would provide?

Possible yes, practical no.

First of all, you will need two seperate phone lines as modems don't like to share. Then you will need software to decide which modem is to make which request. I am not familiar with any existing program that does this.

Servers don't like to send data to two different IP addresses. Therefore, large files cannot be spread over the two modems. Net result, faster browsing but no improvement in download speed. But your telco and ISP will love you.

Exactly.

Diamond introduced what they called "shotgun technology" back in the 56k heyday. It never really caught on because of the expense of 2 phone lines, etc

Shotgun Technology!

Here's some info on connecting 2 modems and dual-line 112K modems.

As Rimfire says, there may be limitations on what they can do.

I've used quite a few of Diamond Multimedia Supra modems and don't recall seeing mention of this 'shotgun technology' on the box or installaiton disk so maybe they don't use it anymore.

Thanks all,
Well, Google didn't produce anything you guys have not already said, but if it's going to take two lines, I'm not interested.
