In Windows 98...When a PC boots and the computer with which it is networked (by a mapped drive) is not turned on/available, a message comes up which asks if the user wants to try to connect next time the PC boots (or not).
Does anyone know how do disable this message so that it will ALWAYS try to connect to a mapped drive? This occasionally happens on a smaller network and sometimes the users will mistakenly click the NO choice (therefore cutting themselves off from the network forever more - or until I come around and fix it).
Thanks

When you map the network drive the first time, there should be a check box that says "reconnect at logon" make sure that this is checked. Also under the client for microsoft network properties under network neighborhood properties make sure that network logon options is set to "log on and restore network conneections" and not the quick log on. The quick log on will show you the message you're getting. (you can get to these settings by right clicking network neighborhood ->properties highlight client for microsoft networks in the top box and click properties.) Also check to see if the computer is logging on to the network correctly at start-up via user name and password. Good Luck!

I will have to disagree with the above solution. It is the opposite you want the user to log on to the network but not connect until needed. What happens is the user will not be prompted if they can not connect during the initial log on only when they try to access this drive later. However the same result will occur when they can not connect. I think their may be a profile fix or registry fix to prevent the message from being displayed.
