Hi!
Can I connect two win98 computers using modems (on both) only? Actually, the help does say so, but nothing clear. I know this can be done using hyperterminal, but this is damn slow. Besides, windows help says it can connect two pcs if one is set as server.
I did that too, but how do I proceed? Thanks for help.

w98 has the direct cable connect program on the cd rom. load it up into your computer, het an lpt1 direct connect cable, plug the two computers in (normally where the printer connection is) and follow the steps when you open direct cable connect. It will likely be loaded under start-programs-communications
good luck

You can connect two computers using modems. You have to be running a terminal program where you can issue the correct AT command that bypasses the dial tone. However, you wouldn't want to use this type of connection. It's too slow. It would be more efficient to connect the two computers using a parallel port connection (LapLink cable). Software like LapLink, Fastlynx, Interlink, or the direct cable connection would transfer data much faster than modems.

Hi!Thanks to all those who replied.
As i had specified, i got it all right with hyperterminal, but as correctly mentioned by preston, this is slow. But there is some other way too.
