my hard drive crashed about a month ago. I finally got a new on in anyway. I put the aol program on the computer and it worked fine you where able to get online but then when I put my program for my scanner(easyphoto scanner and software) when you go on aol as soon as its going to dial out the number the computer shuts down and gives you an windows error message and then it tells you its safe to turn it off. I have tried to call Storn technologies who puts out the scanner program but there numbers don;t work and neither does there site. I called aol and they told me to end task on everything but systray and explorer and that doesn;t work. I have formated my hard drive a bunch of time doing different things. It works fine until you put the scanner software on it. But before my hard drive crashed this never happened before everything worked fine. Please someone help me before I have to take it back so they can look at the hard drive. I have exhausted every possible way I can think of to fix the problem

Howdy, Well if everything worked before what caused the hard drive to crash in the first place? If you want to try different drivers you can go to www.windrivers.com and I'm pretty sure Storm went belly up since there web page is listed in the dead board section at the bottom of the windrivers home page. You also could have another type of hardware problem unrelated to the hard drive as in a bad/faulty IDE ribbon cable, which is rare but does happen or a bum motherboard or a host of other things. I doubt anyone at AOL is going to solve the problem for you and if you have the money you should take it to a tech and see if they can narrow down the problem. This is a hard one, atleast for me to say what is going on without being there. If you can give anymore details as to what maybe caused the Hard Drive to crash the first time it would help.

Laters,

Kevin The Tech Dude.

Let me guess...I bet you have a winmodem...
I have an HP8396 PII450, that came with an LT Winmodem DSVD(finally tracked down to a company in Taiwan) which worked perfectly until I loaded the drivers for my HP 4c scanner. All of the sudden, on a reboot, the modem would not work...Diagnostics would say that the modem is in use. If I would dump the modem and reinstall it, all would work fine, until a re-boot that the same problem. After all the running back and forth between HP tech support and attempts to track down the modem manuf. I finally put in my 56k/V90 US Robotics, from another computer, and all worked fine. I then picked up a creative 56k modem and put it in and it works fine. The problem seems to be the stinking LT Winmodems and the HP scanner software. I just did an install for a friend with a HP 8390 with a HP 6200 scanner and the stinking LT winmodem does the exact same thing. In short, check it with another modem if you can...I would bet that it's a conflict with the scanning software and the specific modem that you have. Good Luck.
